Project Title: AI: Readiness, Risk, and Real-World Use in Transportation
As transit agencies navigate post-pandemic ridership shifts—marked by declining peak
commuter patterns and growing all-day demand— alongside mounting fiscal pressures,
traditional planning methods are struggling to keep pace, creating an urgent need to align
limited service with real-world demand. This panel will explore how AI can support that effort
through data-driven analysis: identifying systemwide ridership trends, distinguishing corridors
with strong recovery from those with declining demand, and surfacing patterns across large
datasets that human analysts may otherwise miss—while being clear that AI supports analysis,
not decision-making.
