Program Track: Leading in Middle Management
Project Title: Benefit of Hiring Talent Outside the Transit Industry
Our project looks at the real value of bringing in people from different professional, cultural, and
community backgrounds, and what that means for the riders we serve. Through interviews
across our organizations, we'll explore how lived experience, soft skills, and non-traditional
career paths make our teams stronger. When our workforce reflects the communities we serve,
we're better equipped to understand their needs, respond to real-world challenges, and build
services that actually work for everyone. Our goal is to make the case that diversity of
background isn't just a hiring checkbox; it's how transit agencies become more innovative,
responsive, and connected to every rider in every community.
